1 · The double restart
Router off 30 seconds; device off 30 seconds; both back on. Mundane, skipped by everyone, fixes a remarkable share of cases — stale connections and memory leaks die here.

2 · Measure at the TV, not the router
Speed-test on a phone standing where the streaming device lives. 15+ Mbps for HD, 25–35 for 4K. If the router-side number is fine but TV-side collapses, you've found it: Wi-Fi shadow — proceed to step 3. If both are bad, jump to step 8.

3 · Kill the Wi-Fi variable
Ethernet to the device — £10 cable, or £15 adapter for Firesticks. Can't cable? Move the router closer, or switch the device to the 5GHz band. This single step ends more IPTV misery than everything else combined.

7 · Pause other bandwidth hogs
A console downloading a 90GB update or cloud backup running upstairs will starve any stream. Check what else is on the network during buffer windows — especially at kids' bedtime.

8 · Test a different device
Same channel on your phone (on Wi-Fi, then on 4G). Phone smooth + TV stuttering = device problem (old stick? upgrade path). Both stuttering on Wi-Fi but smooth on 4G = broadband/ISP issue — step 8.

9 · Check for peak-time ISP throttling
Buffering that appears only 8–10pm nightly, across devices, on healthy speed tests suggests ISP traffic management of video. Test: run a reputable VPN trial for one evening — if streams smooth out, you've diagnosed throttling, and the VPN is your workaround.
